so finally, i moved inside the book and i actually moved onto the page instead of copying or tracing the page. this is a piece i did with a close childhood friend who is an architect, overly ambitious, crazy busy and hugely talented. as i have mentioned before i collect books, catalogs, magazines, ay type of printed matter. this catalog i purchased at printed matters in chelsea during a gallery visit to nyc. i held onto it and even packed to travel with me. i was going away for a few months and knew i wanted to do some sort of work and keep in touch with friends. this piece ended up combining the two. i made a few pencil marks on the pages and mailed off to my friend jane, a month later an envelope arrived with the catalog. jane’s response was stunning, she cut away perfect little squares creating a depth and a lightness. she upped the game. and this is how it went back and forth until we both thought enough.
this piece was auctioned off at Artcetera, Boston this fall.
